Resume Writing – Tips For Printing Your Resume

The internet has transformed the job search. Professionals can now create and email a resume to several different potential employers simultaneously. Headhunter sites allow us to create and store cover letters and resumes in electronic format making the process more convenient. However printing electronically formatted resumes may raise some concern.
When would a printed resume be needed? Resumes in printed form are necessary when going to a job interview where you and the potential employer will be speaking face to face. Although it is likely that your potential employer will have already printed a copy of your resume from your online application in preparation for the interview it is a good rule of practice to bring a clean professional copy with you. Printing a test copy beforehand will help to ensure that your resume is correctly formatted for print and looks professional.
When printing your resume you should always use white or ivory paper; this may be obtained from any office supply store. Using colored paper, colored font or funky fonts detract from the professional image that you are trying to project. You may appear childish and unprofessional to a potential employer and this can ruin an otherwise good first impression. If your resume is longer than one page be sure to print all pages and make sure that the format is consistent on all subsequent pages. Print on only one side of the paper and include page numbers on the bottom of each page, take care that there are no stray markings or scribbling on any of the pages. Paying attention to small details in the beginning will ensure that you appear polished and detail oriented to all potential employers.
If you are using an ink jet printer allow your document to sit on the printer until the ink dries to avoid smudging. Place your resume in a folder or hard bound book to ensure that edges do not become curled, dog eared or document does not get crumpled. First impressions can make the difference between a successful interview and a not so successful interview.
Be sure to print several copies of your resume and provide one to the interviewer. Although he or she may have a copy, a nicely formatted printed copy will speak volumes about your attention to detail and professionalism. Be prepared to provide additional copies if asked. The interviewer may wish to have a manager or colleague review the resume for additional input. Being prepared will present you as someone that is organized, business like and well equipped. Additionally it is a good practice to include references along with copies of your resume. References may be included at the bottom of your resume or as an attachment. Including references preempts the employer from having to ask for this information and demonstrates your serious pursuit of the position.
Having a well-formatted, clean and professional resume will make a great first impression and pave the way to landing a job that you really want.

All About Write – Write About What You Know – 10 Top Writing Tips

All about writing
It’s a small step to go from reading to writing, but you have to be a reader first and foremost. If you’re not an avid reader how can you write?
Before starting to write that romantic suspense or mystery, you should be making loads of notes about the story. Think of that last great novel you read. There would have been pages of notes before it saw the light of day. Why should your novel be different?
You should scribble down all the associated ideas you can think of, then sit back in that comfy seat and take time to analyse just what your brilliant story idea is all about.
How much do you actually know about the background for your story? How much do you know about your characters? What about their jobs, their likes and dislikes, their friends, their taste in food?
All about write #1 – Write what you know.
Let’s get this straight – write what you know does NOT mean, write about your own life.
Few writers lead extraordinary lives; if they did, they wouldn’t have much time left for writing. So what does write what you know actually mean?
Write what you know, means that you should take your own experience and use it in your stories no matter how fantastic and outside of your own life, your stories are – even sci-fi. These won’t necessarily be detailed events, but conduct, response, exchange of ideas, etc.
What you know can be priceless. The way your characters work together, what they say, what they do, should be awash with by human experience no matter what the setting. Your past experience with catastrophe, with offensive people, domineering bosses, and small-minded people, should be winkled out to furnish your characters and story with the feel of authenticity. Your experience of life can make your book stand out.
Kindle Edition
If you’re not familiar….
If you’re not familiar with the background of what your novel is about, you sure as heck should find out. You should dig out as much information as you can, way BEFORE starting to write – get off your butt, get out and do your RESEARCH! Seek out all your local writers resources from your library or arts centre, and use them.
You should only ever write from a position of knowledge. What you don’t know, find out….
All about write #2 – Experience it.
There’s nothing quite like experience.
I remember for one of my stories, I drove out to a solitary part of town. It was late evening. There was a deserted house I’d spotted earlier in the week, and I wanted to know how it felt and looked to be there at night. I needed to experience the atmosphere so that I could write about it from first-hand knowledge.
Imagining the situation would have been no good. I had to really know what it was like. I needed to taste the fear of darkness and exquisite loneliness. There was a haunted air to the place that I was desperate to experience first-hand so that I could truly write about it. Nothing else would have given me that knowledge.
Writing that plot in the white heat of excitement is great, but only if you have the facts at your fingertips. Writing isn’t just about inspiration and art. Successful writing is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
All about write #3 – Is there enough
Think hard about the subject matter before your story plot gets really out of hand. Is there sufficient storyline to see a whole novel through or is there actually only enough for a short story?
All about write #4 – Setting
Make sure you understand the setting, geographic area and all local details of where your novel is to take place. If you don’t, your readers won’t be able to picture it – but somebody will know and boy, will they tell you.
These won’t necessarily be detailed events, but conduct, response, exchange of ideas, etc. What you know can be priceless. The way your characters work together, what they say, what they do, should be awash with by human experience no matter what the setting.
Your experience can make your book conspicuous.
Write what you know #5 – Is it correct
Make sure of your facts before putting pen to paper – I once read a story where the author enthused over the beautiful scent from bougainvillea – I have several types of bougainvillea in my garden – NOT ONE OF THEM SMELL! I’ve never picked up anything by that author since.
All about write #6 – Know it
If you’ve only ever lived in a village, forget about suburban machinations unless you have some genuine means of getting to grips with it. How can you write about the subtleties of city life if you’ve never been away from a thatched cottage with hens in the garden? Your novel will read false if you make it up.
Why not write about that wonderful cottage and hens instead?
All about write #7 -The family
Make sure you’re absolutely familiar with the sort of family lives your characters lead. If they’re supposed to be poor and you’re from a middle-class background, how can you put the correct emotion and nuances into the story?
All about write #8 – Careers
Make sure you have sufficient knowledge of what’s involved in the careers your characters have. Don’t let your central character be a lawyer unless you know about the legal profession. Don’t be persuaded to write about the Jet Set if you only have your information from watching shows or reading fiction. If you do, you take on board second-hand knowledge, and believe me; it WILL show.
All about write #9 – First-hand knowledge
All authors eventually write about areas of life they are unfamiliar with. We have to, otherwise our writing becomes very limited – and we need to have balance and proportion in our work. However, if you’re a new writer, the Holy Grail of writing novel tips is to write about what you know. If you need to write about stuff that you don’t have first-hand knowledge of, for heaven’s sake research the facts.
Please, please, please, do NOT research from someone else’s fiction. Don’t think that just because you’ve read a novel and enjoyed it, you can write about a similar place or lifestyle. If you regurgitate someone else’s fiction it will be obvious to someone who really does know – and Sod’s Law says someone who knows, is bound to read it…..
All about write #10 – You are unique
Don’t be afraid to write about your own job, or your own locality. No matter how monotonous and mundane you imagine your life is, or how dull your job sounds, other people can find them intriguing – because your life is out of the ordinary compared to their own. If you live on a pig farm, someone who has never set foot in the countryside, will find the setting fascinating.
Don’t ever forget that what you have, what you do, is unique. So…. the final of my writing novel tips is to celebrate in your uniqueness and write….

Writing Tips From the Greats of Baseball

“The crowd makes the ballgame.”
Ty Cobb, baseball player
Remember those words. “The crowd makes the ballgame.” That is the truth. It is the number one thing you need to remember about your writing. The crowd. The readers. You don’t always have to please them, but you sure as heck need to keep them in mind. If you don’t, you’re just writing for yourself. Which is okay as long as you’re not expecting to be published someday. But for those of us who enjoy being published and make our livings writing, the reader must be held in importance.
“This is a game to be savored, not gulped.”
Bill Veeck, team owner and promoter
There is a lot of truth in that statement from one of baseball’s more flamboyant characters. For one thing, if you rush through a writing project, you’re likely to make more mistakes. Sit back and enjoy your writing. If you’re not having fun writing, your readers probably won’t either.
“Poets are like baseball pitchers. Both have their moments. The intervals are the tough things.”
Robert Frost, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet
Again, there’s truth to be found here. Not all of your writing is going to be great. Sometimes things will “click,” and every word you type is going to be golden. Other times, your grocery list is more exciting than any story ideas you can come up with. It happens. Learn to deal with it. Allow yourself to write badly. Once you can do that, you’ll be able to move ahead with projects. Besides, a lot of the real work is done in editing and rewriting.
“Baseball is too much of a sport to be called a business, and too much of a business to be called a sport.”
Philip Wrigley, baseball executive and chewing gum manufacturer
Yes, writing can be a lot of fun. But for professionals, it’s also a business. Keep that in mind when you are trying to get your work published. Editors and publishers are hoping to make money from your work. And they work too, work hard, so don’t think you’re doing everything while they’re just sitting back and riding your coattails. Writing is a business. Editors and publishers have house payments and families to feed just like a lot of other people.
“In baseball, you don’t know nothing.”
Yogi Berra, baseball player and manager
In writing, there are a lot of people who offer advice. Most of them don’t know what they’re talking about. They can give you their personal experiences, and they can offer technical advice about writing, but no one can tell you what the next gigantic, best-selling novel is going to be. Not even the New York City publishers can do that. They might think they can, but they can’t It’s a crap shoot. It’s a roll of the dice. Yes, writing well increases the chances of a book or article or story or poem of being published, but even writing like Shakespeare doesn’t guarantee a particular piece of writing will be the next big thing. Just remember to pay attention and take everyone’s advice with a grain of salt. And yes, even advice from me.
“Don’t think. It can only hurt the ball club.”
Crash Davis, catcher played by Kevin Costner in the movie “Bull Durham”
Sometimes thinking about a project you’re working on can actually hurt the project. Maybe you’re over thinking things. Maybe you need a little perspective. If a project is driving you batty, take a breather from it. Maybe a few hours or even a few days. Maybe a week or two. Then come back to it fresh. Unless you’re writing the next great American novel or some extended book on a deep philosophical subject, give yourself a break and don’t over think your writing.
“There have been only two geniuses in the world. Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare.”
Tallulah Bankhead, actress and avid New York Giants fan

Lab Report Writing Tips

Lab reports writing tips are easy rules and guidelines which are presented to students who are in their college or high school programs to enable them compile reports that are presentable. The lab report writing tips can be divided into two key aspects which are predominated by the need to avail high quality lab report writing papers. The student must have participated in the actual lab session when the experiments were taking place for them to come up with sufficient lab report writing essays. Similarly, the students must have attended the briefing sessions prior to the real lab report writing exercise to gauge their participation in the task as well as freshen up their minds on the activities which took place in the lab.
The lab report writing entails data collection such that if one fails to take part in the experiments in the lab where the data will be collected, they might end up writing the wrong reports.
Data collection is often carried out at various intervals with the group members taking turns to collect data such that before the lab report writing the group members have to come up with common data after comparing their results with that of the other members of the same group. The data collected must be accurate to enhance chances of the lab report writing being of high quality as well as being original. Consequently, the results of the lab report writing are derived from the data which was collected hence the degree of accuracy is dependent on the nature of data which was collected. Hence the data collection activity is fundamental in any lab report writing. Students who seek for the services of online lab report writing companies often attach the data and results of the lab session to the writer who then develops the lab report writing paper as well as formulating the most accurate results and their explanations. Failure of the lab report writing client to attach the data and result will be disastrous as the lab report writing cannot compile the report without using these vital elements. This also comes in line with the lab report writing forms as most subjects have specific forms or sheets where the lab report writing work is included.
After the results are outlined in detail, the lab report writing has to insert a discussion where the results are discussed and supported by examples or evidence derived from course books. In this section, the lab report writer has to carry out sufficient research online or in other places such as in the journal articles with similar results. After the discussion the lab report writing incorporates a summary of the results and methodology used to obtain the lab report writing results. Similarly, the summary analyzes the procedures used in the lab sessions and whether the procedures interfered with the results that were obtained. This is essential in outlining the recommendation or the personal opinion concerning the lab report writing.
After all the sections have been properly inserted in the lab report writing paper, the writer edits the work to make it more presentable. The errors which have been made in the course of the lab report writing are picked out and eliminated while the proper labeling of the lab report writing paper is carried out.
